"Growing up on a farm in Twente, in the east of the Netherlands, surrounded by fields, forests, and country lanes, I loved being outdoors, climbing trees so high, overlooking the land and hedges, woodlands and marshes, that I imagine now to have touched the sky from the highest branches."
"As I get older, I still love to be in the countryside. It’s where I find myself, find silence and beauty, light and colour, stillness and movement. It seems that life is in balance there and that everything fits together."
"And I always rediscover how to put what I experience and see on paper."
"In this series, I examine the woods in drawings and paintings of trees and lanes at different hours of the day and in all seasons -early morning to sunset-; spring with a light yellow and green; summer in a dark green and blue; autumn with all colours from red to bronze and orange, yellow, and black; in winter all of these in paler shades and sometimes in a frozen grey or white."
